Continuous Composite Preforming System

Automated continuous processing of 3D-shaped and bent composite profiles: made possible for the first time with our Continuous Composite Preforming System (CCPS). Ribs and stringers are typical aircraft stiffening elements. So far, such composite components required a very time-consuming, sequential manual or semi-automated processing procedure.

Thanks to CCPS, the curved preforms needed for dry carbon prepregs are processed fast and efficiently today. The profiles are made from layers of textile fiber material prepregs and these prepregs undergo an extensive refining and preforming process. Complex, multi-layered single preforms are processed simultaneously and are then joined to a final preform by the composite handling system. Finally, the composite component is fused with a separate curing tool.

Curved preforms needed for composite ribs can now be manufactured in a fully-automated and fast process for the first time ever! The technology behind this process is already mature and can be implemented in aircraft program in the near future.
This still unique solution for the automated composite component manufacture won the distinguished JEC Innovations Award 2011.
